We encourage highly motivated BIPOC students with less than 1 year of recent and continuous Iyengar Yoga study to apply to our apprenticeship program as a PRE-APPRENTICE. Applicants need to be residents of Detroit, Hamtramck, or Highland Park.
BIPOC Pre-Apprentices will:
Receive a scholarship for classes, workshops, and study groups, based on need
All IYDC classes are open to Pre-Apprentices
Maintain a Home Practice Log
Complete a self-assessment every 3 months, which includes discussion and reflections on the Home Practice Log with a mentor
After 3-12 months of meeting these requirements, BIPOC Pre-Apprentices will either:
Become a Paid Apprentice, if 1 year of continuous study has been met
OR
Continue as a Pre-Apprentice with 100% scholarship for all classes, workshops, and study groups
When 1 year of continuous study has been completed, Pre-Apprentices may apply for the Paid Apprenticeship.
This extra time as a Pre-Apprentice will allow students to deepen their relationship with Iyengar Yoga, establish a home practice, make time and space for Iyengar Yoga in their lives, begin accumulating books and other resources, ask lots of questions, and help determine if this program is a mutual fit.
Timelines for progress will be individually determined with support from IYDC mentors.
